Host Committee Chair
Joanne Kazarian is a life long resident of Newton, MA. She is an Officer and Board member at Temple Emanuel, Newton, serving as Vice President of Membership and Community Relations. At the synagogue, she is also chairing the Sisterhood Nominating and Governance Committee, and is a member of the Temple Emanuel Nominating and Governance Committee. She has held numerous positions at Temple Emanuel, including Sisterhood President, serving on the Annual Appeal, Bereavement Committee, Youth Committee, and the Search Committee for an Executive Director and Family Educator. Joanne is responsible for coordinating Officer Leadership coverage on the bimah each Shabbat and for the High Holidays. Joanne is a founding member of Temple Emanuel’s Legacy Society and a member of the Legacy Committee.
In the broader community, Joanne has co-chaired a mission to Israel, served on the Youth Engagement Task Force, has developed programs and partnerships and currently maintains initiatives with The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Boston, The Kraft Family Blood Donor Center, One Family in Jerusalem, The Newton Police, Cradles to Crayons and the JCC in Newton. Joanne was awarded the “Woman of Distinction” in 2018 by Sisterhood Temple Emanuel and was recognized nationally through the Women’s League of Conservative Judaism.
Joanne has served on the Search Committee for the Chief of Police in Newton in 2012 and 2015 and has worked with the City of Newton as a volunteer in many capacities, including serving as PTO President, PTO Council Board Member, Youth Commissioner, and Campaign Chairs for Newton City elected officials. She founded “Newton Healthy Eating” in conjunction with Whole Foods and the Newton Board of Health. Joanne has also been involved both on board levels and committee chair positions with CJP, Mayyim Hayyim, Girls Scouts of America and Dana Farber Hospital.
Joanne is currently a Sales Executive at Harpers Payroll Services and has been in the Payroll and Human Resource field for much of her professional career.
Joanne lives in Newton with her husband Richard and their daughter Sarah (17) a junior at Newton North. Her son Matthew (26) is serving in the United States Army.
